pp363 Case Study 6.2 - Tesco develops a buy-side e-commerce system for supply chain menagement

q1: What benefits does Tesco’s information exchange offer to the retailer and its suppliers?
In 1997, Tesco started their  Tesco information exchange (Tie) system to have better two way collaboration. tie can shift the responsibility for managing products from retailer back to supplier.Suppliers pay some money to join the supplier, once suppliers join Tie, they can view daily electronic point-of-sale from Tesco stores.  Allows suppliers to have better understanding of their specific product lines. because supplier has the best understanding of own product, so they can change the strategy as soon as the market change.  \

q2: What differences have the use of Tie added over the original EDI system?
EDI is only one way system, Tesco would not have the true value of each sales data, because there was not feedback.
Tie has a promotion management system, allows retailers and suppliers to collaborate in all stages of the promotion

q3:  Discuss reasons why only two of Tesco’s suppliers have fundamentally altered the way they work as a result of Tie?
